Tips&Distractions

Hello, hope your all having a good week!

I thought I’d write a blog on coping mechanisms and things I do and use to help. Hope this is helpful. I would also like to point out that I am not a professional and whatever advice I give is from personal or known experiance.

Trigger warning: Mentions of self harm.

So, my first tip for self harm is probably one of my favourites. I found out about this one on pinterest. Basically when you want to self harm, instead of picking up whatever you use, you pick up a pen, or a few different pens if you want. Then you simply doodle on your skin where you would usually harm yourself. Then you end up with a nice colourful doodle. This has worked nearly every time for me. I’m not saying that it will completely take the thoughts away but it defiantly helped me out. Art is one of the most therapeutic things and can calm the mind instantly and can help clear thoughts.

My second tip is for people that struggle to talk about how they feel. I hate talking about how i feel to people as I feel as though I’m a burden to them and that they don’t really care about whats going on in my life. Also, because of my anxiety, I can tend to stutter a lot when I’m talking about something I don’t really want too. My tip for this is to write, and by this I mean like a diary I suppose. You don’t have to write everyday, but when your in a bad mood or your feeling a type of way, just write it all down. This helps me a lot because I can write everything down without really thinking too much, helps track my moods, as i write i figure out whats made me feel that way so its also good to understand what make you feel all these different emotions. Now, my diary is private, however if I’m struggling to talk to someone about something, ill show them a few pages of my diary so they can understand how i feel and whats going on without me actually having to say anything. This then stops me from having an anxiety attack.

This next tip helped me a lot when the voices were really loud. Basically its to put some headphones in and blast your favourite tunes. This only works for me though if its a proper feel good song. Like the sort of music I’d dance too, not that i can or do dance unless im wasted, but you get the point. Listening to music made the voices go away and gave me something to focus on. Id listen to every word and completely focus on the song.

I’m sorry this is a small blog! Check out my instagram page for more tips and guidance at:
